How to Search with Spark

The Spark Search screen helps you quickly find and work with placeholders and documents in nCino.

Enter a set of search criteria on the left-hand panel to indicate what kinds of placeholders you're looking for. Spark will search, using your criteria, for any matching placeholders on any of the related objects in the system.

For example, you can search for a Borrower Tax Return placeholder based on the borrower's name, and then view the document assigned to the placeholder. Or, you can search for placeholders related to a Loan by its Loan ID, and see which placeholders are in Exception state, and add documents to them.

Searching for placeholders

To start searching:

  1. While logged into nCino, click on the Spark Search tab on your top-level tabs.

  1. You will see a set of search criteria on the left.

    1. Enter one or more criteria fields to indicate what placeholders you are looking for.

    2. If you enter more than one criterion, Spark will search for matches to all of the criteria you've entered.

  2. Click the Search icon at the top of the search criteria, or press Enter on your keyboard after typing in your search criteria.

  3. Spark will search for placeholders, and display the results on the right-hand side.

  4. If you don't see the placeholder you're looking for, try adding more or different search criteria, and clicking Search or pressing Enter again.

  5. If you'd like to clear your search criteria, press the Reset Criteria button above the search criteria.

  6. Continue with Taking actions on placeholders or Adjusting your search results.

Taking action on placeholders

After finding one or more placeholders, you can then take action on them.

View the document in the placeholder

To quickly view the document that's associated with the placeholder, click View Document. The Document will open in a standard viewer, allowing you to view its contents.

To go to the object that the placeholder is associated with, such as a Loan, Relationship, Collateral, or Product Package Document Manager, click Go to Related Object. A new window will be opened, loading the related object.

Download the document in the placeholder

To download the document that's associated with the placeholder, click Download Document. The document will be downloaded via your browser to your desktop.

Adjusting your search results

You can modify the search results grid in order to more easily work with placeholders found via Spark Search.

Expand or hide the Search Criteria panel

To hide the Search Criteria panel, click the Close Panel icon at the top. The panel will minimize, increasing your view of the search results grid.

To restore the Search Criteria panel, click the Filter icon.

Make a column bigger or smaller

To make an individual column bigger or smaller, mouse over the line between two columns until it is highlighted, then click and drag the line left or right to change the column width.

Add or remove columns from the Search Results grid

There are multiple options for columns to display in the search results grid, allowing you to see different kinds of information about the placeholders you have found.

To modify the search results grid columns:

  1. Click on the Gear icon in the upper right above the search results grid.

  2. Click Select Fields to Display.

  3. You will be shown a list of columns that are currently displayed, on the right, and other fields you can choose to add to it on the left.

    1. To add columns to the grid: Click on fields under Available Fields on the left, and then click the Right button to move them to Visible Fields.

    2. To remove columns: Click on fields under Visible Fields on the right, and then click the Left button to move them to Available Fields.

    3. To change the order of a column in the grid: Select that field under Visible Fields and click the Up or Down buttons.

  4. Click Save to return to the data grid: you should now see your updated list of columns and their data in the grid.

To restore the original set of columns in the grid:

  1. Click on the Gear icon in the upper right above the search results grid.

  2. Click Restore Default Fields.

  3. The default set of fields will be restored to the view.

Sort the results by a particular column

You can sort the result set of placeholders by different criteria, by clicking on the column header you'd like to sort by. By clicking multiple times, you can toggle the sort order between ascending, indicated by an up arrow icon, and descending, indicated by a down arrow icon.

If you'd like to sort by a different column, click on that column's header to sort by that column.

Some columns do not support sorting: clicking on them will have no effect.

Change the text wrapping setting of a column

Text in the cells of a column may be too long to display. If it is, the system will either cut off the text with an ellipses (i.e. Loan Packag…), or will wrap the text onto additional lines so that it can all be displayed. You can select which behavior you'd like by mousing over the column header, clicking the down chevron icon, and selecting either Wrap Text or Clip Text.
